Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes April will be crucial for the Red Devils
Former Manchester United right-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447 feels that April 2011 could make or break United’s hopes of winning three different competitions.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international claims April could become the most important month in the history of the club as the Red Devils aim for a repeat of treble winning 1999 season in which they won the Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
Neville said, “Keep the players fit, make sure they're fresh and not over-trained, make sure they're prepared. You really have got games now every weekend and midweek - it's probably as big a month as I've seen in my 20 years here when you look at the matches
coming up in the next four or five weeks and the scale of them.”
“From that perspective, it's just about making sure the preparations are the same and keeping the players fit and you don't get sending offs. So discipline is important - they're the ones out of your control a little bit as the manager needs his full squad
at this time of the season,” added Neville.
Manchester United were drawn against local rivals Chelsea in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League after triumphing over French giants Marseille in the previous round. The Red Devils will play the first leg of the knockout fixture at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s home
Stamford Bridge on Wednesday which will be followed by a return leg at Old Trafford a week later.
Moreover, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team defeated Arsenal in the quarter-final of the FA Cup by 2-0 and now they face city rivals Manchester City in the semi-final of the competition on 16 April, 2011.
Manchester United are eyeing their record 19th Premier League title which will take them ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the overall title race.
The Red Devils are currently leading the Premier League table with 63 points to their credit out of 30 matches. Second-placed Arsenal are the only side which can prevent the Red Devils from accomplishing that feat.
The Gunners are five points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s team though they have a game in hand. Arsenal also have to play United at Emirates Stadium for the League fixture by the end of April, 2011.
However, the Red Devils will continue their Premier League campaign by playing away at West Ham United on Saturday and will be looking to get all three points in order to increase the lead to eight points over Arsenal.
