Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea wanted Sunderland move, frustrated with injury ahead of Chelsea clash
Former Manchester United defender John O’Shea insisted he had not joined Sunderland because he was at the end of his career. The 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international arrived at the Stadium of Light along with Manchester United teammate Wes Brown
in the summer transfer window, ending a long spell with the Red Devils.
O’Shea began his senior career with Manchester United in the 1998-1999 season and went on to remain with them until the end of the 2010-2011 season. He has made a total of 392 appearances during that time and has found the back of the net 15 times.
The defender revealed that after a talk with Manchester United manager Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson, he had decided to part ways with the club. Knowing that he would not get a chance at regular football at Old Trafford, O’Shea decided to move to a club where he would.
O’Shea said in an interview:
“I had been at United my whole career and I had always said the manager would decide when my time was up at Old Trafford.”
According to the Irish defender, he had joined Sunderland because of the ambition the club had shown in the summer transfer window and the season before. The Black Cats finished tenth on the Premier League table last season and are aiming for a top six finish
this season.
O’Shea joined ten other players, all of whom were brought to Sunderland in the summer transfer window in an attempt to strengthen the squad. He revealed he was looking forward to returning to action for Sunderland, having picked up an injury while at international
duty.
He said:
“That's the frustrating part. That's when you see the best of all footballers after they have had pre-season when they play five, six, seven games and you get the confidence flowing and you feel strong.”
The former Red Devils defender is out for a while and said he was frustrated with the calf and hip strains, which kept him sidelined against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 in mid-week. He will miss today’s match against Chelsea at the Stadium of Light but was confident his side
would do well.
There has been a lot of hype following the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 on a season long move, with hope that the 23-year-old would help the Black Cats end their goal drought. While O’Shea admitted Bendtner was an amazing striker, he did not
think Sunderland had to depend on him for goals.
O’Shea continued:
“Even before Nicklas came, in the games we played, we had created many chances. The worrying point would be maybe if we weren't creating chances and were finding it difficult to create them.
If we keep creating those chances, it will definitely turn and fingers crossed, it does against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.”
