Former Manchester United skipper Gary Neville urges http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Scholes to carry on – EPL news
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 of Manchester United Gary Neville, who announced his retirement in the ongoing 2010-11 season, has urged his long time teammate and old friend Paul Scholes to carry on playing for at least one more season.
So far, it is not yet confirmed if Scholes will retire at the end of the season or not as no official statement has yet been made by the midfielder or the club. However, there are huge speculations that the number 18 of Manchester United has decided to hang
his boots at the end of this season.
Manchester United do want him to carry on and did offer him a year’s extension on his contract but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has not yet given a firm answer to that.
Chief executive of Manchester United http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Gill fears that Scholes may have already decided to call it a day, and this is the way he has been. He said he has tried to stay away from the limelight throughout his career and will retire in the same way.
Gary admitted that his former teammate may not lend an ear to his advice or for anyone’s for that matter. However, he wants Scholes to carry on as he believes that United need him to help younger players get settled before he leaves the club. Neville added
that for him it was different as firstly he was plagued by injuries and secondly the right back slot was in the good hands of the Da Silva twins from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
“If you watch him play and compare that to me in my last few months, you would see there is a complete difference,” said Neville. “Having watched him, I would say carry on.
Neville went on to say that Scholes still produces sterling performances, and if he was able to keep up the performance levels at par with him at this age he would have also carried on for a while longer.
“If I had been playing at the ability level he reaches and making the contribution he still makes in games, I would have done,” he said. “But Paul is his own man. He won't be influenced by what I say.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Neville-c29904 and Nicky Butt. All of these players came up through
the ranks at the United youth academy and after winning the youth cup, all of them made it into the senior side in next couple of years.
Ryan Giggs and Scholes are the only two from that generation remaining in the team, and Giggs has already signed a contract for another year. Scholes may be pursued by Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson at the end of the season to go on for one more year, while Ferguson
has time to make sure who he will have in the team to fill the void Scholes leaves behind.
