Former Maverick Michael Finley eyeing a comeback: NBA Report
Former NBA All-Star Michael Finley wants to come out of his retirement and make a comeback sources close to him have revealed. After playing in the NBA pickup games throughout the summer, he continues to train hard and keep his
fitness levels high enough to have another stint with a team in NBA. The player wanted the Mavericks to give him that opportunity, but failed to make a cut in their final 15.
According to reports, Finley is now trying hard to land a contract that will give him at least one more year on the court. In doing so, he is willing to put his current front-office career on hold. He has been lying low for a while,
working as an untitled but an important figure of the Dallas Mavericks front office team, the franchise for which he played for 9 straight years. Finley convinced the Dallas owner Mark Cuban that he has potential in the executive department and is now a key
figure. He was part of the negotiating team that tried to woo Deron Williams to Mavericks this summer.
Although, he has been working as an executive throughout their entire off season campaign for Dallas, but has not stopped training along the way. The 39-year old was also invited to the Mavs training camp as a non guaranteed player;
the opportunity he desperately wanted to avail, but a calf injury kept him away.   He has recovered completely now and has started to look for opportunities through his long time agent Henry Thomas.
Having watched Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse come out of retirements has inspired him. Initially, he thought of making it through the D-League, the standard path for the veterans to make their presence felt to the NBA coaches.
But, he ultimately decided against going for that option.
The trio of Steve Nash, Finley and Dirk Nowitzki was responsible for transforming Dallas Mavericks from the lower table team in mid 1990’s to a team that made 12 consecutive playoffs. He still had a lot of basketball left in him
when he left the Mavs in 2005 after Cuban waived him off to reduce luxury-tax bill. He consequently joined Spurs in 2005 and was part of the team that won the NBA finals in 2007. The two times All-Star remained with the Spurs till 2010, before being shipped
to the Boston Celtics.
