Former Memphis Grizzlies forward Darius Miles to face criminal charges in airport gun incident: NBA
For NBA player Darius Miles was recently charged with the illicit use of a weapon by the St. Louis County Prosecutor.
Miles was arrested by the Lambert Airport security back in August this year, when he was trying to take a loaded gun in his baggage. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials discovered the weapon from Miles during
X-ray screening, after which they contacted the local police, who subsequently made the arrest.
However, at that point in time, the TSA officials didn’t disclose what kind of weapon was discovered from the former National Basketball Association player. This isn’t the first time that Miles has done something against the law.
Back in May 2009, police arrested him after they found a plastic bag of marijuana in his car’s passenger compartment. Luckily for Darius, the charges were dropped in 2011, when he successfully completed his drug education course.
Miles started his pro-career back in 2000. The East St. Louis High School product was picked directly out of high school by the Los Angeles Clippers as 3rd overall in the 2000 NBA Draft.
The 6 foot 9 forward was highly regarded at the school level and proved his worth right away. He scored 9.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and an astonishing 1.5 blocks in his very season and was named in the NBA All-Rookie first team. He
played for the Clippers for two years and then went to Cleveland.
Two years later, he landed at the Portland Trail Blazers. By that time, he had established as a decent player and put in his best season in 05-06 with 14.1 points per game. However, Miles’ career collapsed after he endured a micro
fracture on his right knee in April 2008. After this injury, Miles failed to bounce back. His last gasp effort for a comeback hit the wall when Memphis Grizzlies postponed his regular-season debut due to league-mandated deferral for use of a banned substance.
Later in 2010, Miles was invited to the Charlotte Bobcats’ practice session, but failed to impress the team management.
The 29 year old played 446 games in his pro-career, in which he scored at an average of 10.1 points, 4.9 boards and 1.9 assists per game.
