Former Milwaukee Bucks forward Joe Alexander heads to Russia - NBA Update
Forward Joe Alexander, who remained with the National Basketball Association teams Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Hornets, has declared his intention to play overseas during the NBA lockout.
Ever since the NBA enforced a lockout on its players due to the difference in the new Collective bargaining agreement or CBA, more and more of them are weighing their options to explore the foreign basketball venues. Going with
the flow, Joe has decided to play the next season in Russia with BC Krasnye Krylya.
With China and Europe being touted as the most lucrative markets for NBA players, Joe is the fourth NBA player to head to Russia this offseason. Nenad Krstic, Sean Quinn and Timofey Mozgov have already made their moves.
Considering the current lockout scenario and status of Joe’s career the deal seems fine for the player. Alexander was picked up by the Bucks in 2008 NBA Draft as the 8th overall selection. He played few games with the
Bucks, but did not get much chance to show his talent. At the end of the season, Alexander’s stats were 4.7 points per game at an average of 12.1 minutes per game.
Alexander is going to join players like Jeremy Hazell, Malcolm Thomas and David Lighty in order to earn some handsome money overseas. He will return to the NBA once the lockout gets settle down.
After spending two seasons at the Bucks under the rookie contract, in October 2009, Joe faced an axe and he got traded to the Chicago Bulls and then to the New Orleans Hornets. In the same year, Alexander returned to the NBA Development
League.
Joe rejuvenated his career by joining the Texas Legends of the D-League in the previous season. Alexander produced high-quality numbers with Texas and notched up averages of 20.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. This gave him
the opportunity to participate in the D-League's All-Star Game during the last season.
Alexander’s effort did not just end there. The 6 ft. 8in forward then once again tried to shift back to NBA. Joe took part in the numerous work outs for NBA teams, which also included Atlanta Hawks free agent mini-camp.
It was believed that the Hawks were seriously considering Alexander for their power forward position, but then the league imposed the lockout.
However, if Joe keeps his groove overseas, there is still possibility that Atlanta may still consider him for selection once an agreement over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached.
