Former Minnesota Twins’ Centre Fielder Ben Revere looking to come good for the Philadelphia Phillies- MLB News

Ben Revere’s was recently traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Philadelphia Phillies in order to acquire pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May. Ben is little known amongst the Phillies fans and the signing was a bit of a surprise for many.
The Centre fielder himself was not expecting a move to the Phillies. Knowing that the Philadelphia ball club has the means to pursue bigger fish, he felt motivated and honoured by the fact he was chosen to be brought on board. He was confident that he would
be paying back that trust and help the team to make it to the post-season.
"The Phillies kind of came from nowhere," Revere said. "I know the Phillies have the money where they can go out and get anybody. The chance to play center field for them -- I was shocked but motivated and honored to be with such a great organization with
great people. I want to help this team get back to the playoffs and get to the World Series."
Ben has played for the Twins for three seasons and has done fairly well. He was a first round pick for the Twins in 2007 MLB Draft. He broke into the Majors in September of 2010. Revere has so far posted a .278 batting average with an .319 on-base percentage
in 989 at-bats for the Twins. He has 275 hits to his name, with 64 runs batted in and no home-runs so far.
The Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. and manager Charlie Manuel have asked the young hitter to keep it simple and play his natural game. That may not be a bad advice as Ben is not a home-run hitter and is aware of his short comings in the power game.
He had a bit of humour about his limitations as a batter. Ben is aware that he has to hit more on the ground rather than in the air to be able to deliver better numbers. He has, so far in his short career, been able to get 33 extra base hits.
"When I hit pop flies in Minnesota, they got mad at me," Revere said. "That will be the same way over here. My mom got mad at me if I hit pop flies. I've got to hit ground balls -- that's how a player like me succeeds in the major leagues."
The Minnesota Twins had to move on of their good future prospects in form of Ben Revere due to the want of pitchers. In the end, Phillies should be quite happy with the bargain they have received in form of Ben Revere who has tons of potential and can be
a part of their setup for a long time to come.
