Former Minnesota Twins Pitcher Frank Pastore passes away after nearly a month in coma- MLB News
Frank Pastore, the former Major League pitcher who had been in a coma since his motor bike accident on November 19 which left him with severe head injuries, died on Monday. He was 55.
He was born in Alhambra, California in 1957. He graduated from the Damien High School in La Verne, California in 1975. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds the same year.
Franks started his Major League career in 1979 with the Cincinnati Reds and remained with the team until 1985. He played the 1986 season with the Minnesota Twins, which turned out to be his last year in the Major League.
He did sign with the Texas Rangers in 1987 and played a season for their Double-A affiliate Oklahoma City 89ers before retiring.
Frank was primarily a relief pitcher though he did play as a starting pitcher for a few seasons with the Reds. He had a career 48-58 win-loss record with a 4.29 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. He also had six career saves.
His best year in the Majors was 1980 when he posted a 13-7 winning record in 27 games as a starting pitcher with a 3.27 ERA.
Pastore was a radio broadcaster for nine years on the KKLA radio station, hosting the Frank Pastore Show which gained nationwide fame and was one of the most followed Christian radio shows.
He pursued further education after the end of his playing days and acquired a degree in Philosophy from the Biola University.
Hours before his tragic accident, he was highlighting the dangers associated with riding motor bikes. His accident took place at the 210 freeway when his bike was struck by a car.
"You guys know I ride a motorcycle, right? At any moment, especially with the idiot people who cross the diamond lane into my lane, without any blinkers – not that I'm angry about it – at any minute, I could be spread all over the 210. But that's not me,
that's my body parts. And that key distinction undergirds the entire Judeo-Christian worldview," he said.
KKLA, the radio station for whom Frank aired his show, posted the information of his passing away at their website. “As many of you are aware, Frank Pastore was in a motorcycle accident Monday night, 11/19. [Wife] Gina Pastore informed us that in the early
afternoon of Monday, December 17, Frank passed away.”
The radio stationed also said that they will provide additional information if and when it is available and requested the audiences to pray for his wife Gina and the family of Frank Pastore.
It’s a sad day for baseball and not only a good player but also a good person has been lost forever. We pray that the family has the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
