Former NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson preparing for Coca Cola 600 – NASCAR news
Consecutive five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson is preparing for the upcoming Sprint Cup Series Race Coca Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Jimmie Johnson has a good track record at the CMS and also in the 600-mile race. Johnson has scored 6 wins at the CMS and 14 top ten finishes. Only in his debut race at the venue, he was not able to lead the drivers’ pack. Excluding that, he has led every
race in his career at the CMS. Johnson was asked about the key of success at the event.
He said, “The key is just really staying on the road all night long. You just can't get caught up in things that happen too early. You can have trouble and there's plenty of time to recover. The track changes a lot.”
He also added that being smart throughout the race is also a key to success.
During the press meeting he also talked about the race settings done to his HM Chevrolet and the changes made to it during the race.
He added, “In the old days, you would always get tighter as the sun would set and the track would pick up grip. Now with the new car and new surfaces there's a lot going on; it's kind of tough to know which way it's going to go.”
Johnson discussed some topics during the press talk and one topic under discussion was this weekend’s race strategy. This weekend will host the Sprint Cup Series’ annual Memorial Day race of 600 miles. The Coca Cola 600 is the longest race of the NASCAR
season and is held at the home track of the national series at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Johnson ended the press conference with a note that the team is working hard for the race ahead, leaving all past facts behind and thinking where the track will go. Until then, it remains a guessing game.
