Former NBA Player Darius Miles arrested for carrying a loaded gun at the airport – NBA News
Former NBA players Darius Miles, who was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers as the third overall pick during the 2000 NBA draft, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for carrying a loaded gun.
According to sources, the 29 year old Miles, who was along with some friends, took a loaded gun along with him in the Lambert State Louis International Airport. He was arrested after one of the personnel from the Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) detected the firearm during an X-ray screening at the Louis International airport. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m.
The news was confirmed by one of the spokeswoman from the Transportation Security Administration and a jail official. Darius Miles was handcuffed by the State Louis Airport Police and in the evening, he was then sent to the St.
Louis County Jail.
The case will be studied by the Louis County prosecutor’s office in order to determine whether the charges should be laid or not on the former NBA player. Whether Miles was carrying the gun or it was found in his luggage is yet
to be confirmed. The type of the gun was also not identified by the Airport authorities, who discovered the weapon at the square A checkpoint.
The transportation Security Administration strictly prohibits the passengers to bring handguns or firearms to the security checkpoints. In case of transporting guns, ammunition and related parts, all such objects goes in checked
baggage with a condition that the firearms should not be loaded. However, Miles not only had a loaded gun, he was carrying it with himself.
Darius Miles played for four NBA teams in his career which included Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers and Memphis Grizzlies. Miles finished his NBA career with an average of 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds
per game. He posted the best season in Trail Blazers uniform during 2005-2006, when he scored with an average of 14.0 points and gathered 4.6 boards per game.
After playing his last game with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2009, Darius was invited to join the camp of Charlotte Bobcats in 2010, however he did not respond to the call.
It’s not the first time Los Angeles Clippers ex-small forward has been taken into custody. Back in 2009, Darius was arrested for two charges in Fairview Heights. Miles was driving with a suspended license and had Marijuana in his
car, the last time he was arrested. At that time, Miles was playing for the Memphis Grizzlies and he was sidelined for 10 games during the 2008-2009 regular season as a result of violating the NBA substance abuse policy.
