Former NBA centre Shawn Bradley rides high after getting back his stolen bicycle – NBA Update
Last Friday when Shawn Bradley’s custom made bicycle was stolen, the former Dallas Mavericks centre stated that there is no way a normal person can ride it away and he was absolutely right about that.
After a random search by the parole officials and state probation, Shawn Bradley’s bike was found near NBA superstar’s residence in the town of Murray on Thursday afternoon. The police arrested 34-year-old Joshua Carter “in suspicion of possession of the stolen property and felony theft”. Police sergeant Brian Wright confirmed the arrest; however the motive of the theft was not revealed by the authorities.
The 39-year-old retired American basketball player believes that whoever stole the bike was definitely looking to trade in for quick cash. There was no way he wanted to ride it as Bradley’s bike is almost 50 percent larger than a normal person would ride. Shawn Bradley, whose listed height is 7 feet and 6 inches, needs nearly everything custom-made from clothing and chairs to doorways and countertops. That is why the former NBA centre specially ordered the bicycle in 2005. The cost involved in making the bike is valued at between $6000 to $10,000.
"I'm not a racer, but I love to ride. It's changed my body (composition) and when I ride the bike in the morning, I want to eat healthy the rest of the day. It's a mental game I play with myself,"
Before knowing that the bicycle was recovered, Bradley found it weird that neither seven other bikes, which are used by his wife and children, were touched nor his expensive boat tools were missing on Friday morning when the robber took his custom-made bicycle.
"It's a stolen bike, not the end of the world. It's just kind of a weird story. It's not like I can go down to the bike shop and buy a new bike. It'd be the same if my clothes were stolen."
Shaw Bradley’s NBA career started in 1993 when he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the second overall pick. During his 12 years of NBA career, Bradley played in three different teams which include Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets and Dallas Mavericks. Shawn finished his career in 2005 with an average of 8.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.
After retiring as a player, Shawn Bradley joined a coeducational private school for at-risk youths West Ridge Academy and is serving as the president of the board of directors at present.
