Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton arrested by FBI in California – NBA Update
The story of sad demise of a young woman, a mother of four, followed by alleged shooting by a former National Basketball Association’s player, Javaris Crittenton, has taken a new turn. The wanted ex-NBA player has been arrested
by the police in Southern California.
The Dakota Wizards player was charged for the murder of Jullian Jones, who was shot on the leg by Javaris, and later expired during her surgery on August 19th. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also involved in
the hunt of the player along with the Atlanta and Los Angeles Police Departments.
The spokeswoman for the FBI, Laura Eimiller told that around 8 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County after he checked in for a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta. She said that the
FBI agents were assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
It was only last night that Javaris’s lawyer Brian Steel had said that his client would arrive in Atlanta tomorrow morning to turn himself him. Steel told that Crittenton will fight the murder charges, “Mr. Crittenton wants to
clear his name. He’s innocent of the charges.”
Steel said he was retained by Crittenton's family on Monday morning, and was in contact with the FBI Fugitive Task Force and Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard to make arrangements for the former player's arrest. Steel
stated
“They asked that he come to Atlanta, and we said ‘no problem’”.
The Atlanta Police did not confirm Steel’s statement regarding Crittenton’s arrest though.
Two days ago, police had obtained a murder warrant against Javaris. Investigators are of the view that Jones was not the target of the shooting; rather, the two men she was talking to were the targets. According to reports, those
two ran away uninjured right after the bullets were fired from the car.
According to the police spokesman, Carlos Campos, one of them was the perpetrator who was involved in the robbery. In April, Crittenton reported police about the jewellery’s robbery where he was the victim. The police expected
that the crime was committed with a motive of retaliation.
The options of taking him to the court or to Atlanta are still under consideration. Authorities have yet not decided whether he should be taken to the federal court to make an initial appearance or to take him directly to Atlanta
where he would have to face state charges.
