Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton released on a $230,000 bond; Awaits murder trial: NBA Update
Former NBA and Washington Wizards player Javaris Crittenton was granted bail on $230,000 bond on Wednesday morning by the Fulton county Magistrate Judge Karan Woodson. During the hearing, the Fulton county Judge heard the testimonies
from several of Crittenton’s friend and coaches and consequently released him from jail.
Although Crittenton has been granted bail by the court, however there will certain precautionary restrictions. From now on; he will wear an ankle monitor. This has been done to make sure that he is able to skip his pending murder
trial of young mother of four in a gun shooting incident in South Atlanta on August 19th.
About two weeks ago, Javaris had waived off his extradition rights in court, where he appeared before Judge Upinder Karla.
Crittenton, who is accused of a murder, was in police custody since last month. He was arrested by the California police at the Southern California air port when he tried to flee to avoid the prosecution. The police caught him
and allegedly charged him with murder of 22 year-old Julian Jones. She was shot dead in a drive by shooting on August 19th.
Later, the police department further charged Crittenton with homicide murder, felony murder, and aggravated intent to murder which his attorney Brien Steel straight away denied and said “He's innocent of the charges. Crittenton
wants to do everything lawful because he did nothing.”
After some early investigation by the police department along with Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI), the incident happened late in the evening on 19th
August when a dark coloured sports vehicle gunned down a woman with an assault rifle. She was brought to hospital but could not survive. But, Crittenton denied all these murder charges and said he has no connection with any shooting.
During his tenure with the Wizards, Crittenton had been also involved in an argument with his teammate Gilbert Arenas. Both went out of control and pulled guns on each-other. Later, the NBA authorities told the media as both players
had a poker game dispute that provoked them to pull guns on each-other.
That particular incident proved toi be terrible for both players as they were suspended from the rest of the season by the NBA for bringing guns in the locker rooms. Crittenton was also given an order from the local court to spend
an entire year in probation for illegal gun possession.
Javaris Crittenton has recently played for the Dakota Wizards in the NBA’s Development League (D-League). Having two years of NBA experience, Crittenton was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007 NBA draft with 19th
overall first round pick. He then went on to play for the Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards.
