Former NBA player Samaki Walker arrested on drug charges: NBA Update
Former National Basketball Association player Samaki Walker has been caught red handed by the police for eating and carrying drugs.
The 35 year old ex- power forward was accused of drug charges in Arizona on Thursday, as he tried to eat his stash of marijuana. According to the Arizona authorities when an officer of Public Safety Department approached towards
a 2002 Mercedes-Benz on traffic stop in Kingman, he saw Samaki ingesting something.
The ex-basketball player, who had remained with several teams during his 10 year tenure, was detained as the authorities found 10 grams of marijuana, few prescription drugs along with eight bottles of liquid steroids in his possession.
The 6 ft 9in player was picked up by the Dallas Mavericks as the 9th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. He played for the Mavs until 1999 and then moved to the San Antonio Spurs. After his time with the Mavs, Samaki
failed to stick with one side and was relocated from one team to another constantly.
In his well travelled career, he remained a part of the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers. Walker failed to become a constant member and during his NBA time, he was considered mostly as a role
player.
Afterwards Samaki went overseas and played with several international teams. His last contract was with Korean Basketball League's Seoul SK Knights, where he averaged 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. However, in October 2010
Samaki joined the Al-Jalaa Aleppo.
This was not expected from the player, who is still in action especially it does not make any sense what he was trying to pull off by eating a stash of his marijuana. When the officials asked him about the liquid steroids, his
statement was that he uses them because he is professional basketball player and currently plays in Syrian league.
This unfortunate event has once again brought disrepute to the game. Many might say Walker had earned disrespect with this incident, but players like him don’t care much about such things, as they does not possess the legacy that
one might feel proud of.
