Former NBA referee, Rashan S. Michel, attacks NBA Hall of Famer, Dominique Wilkins
After the Atlanta Hawks’ hard-fought 85-82 victory over the visiting Orlando Magic, a fight occurred inside the Philips Arena on Wednesday night.
A former NBA referee, Rashan S. Michel, attacked the NBA Hall of Famer, Dominique Wilkins. The incident took place right after the game when Wilkins was on his way after performing his television duties. Michel hit him in the chest and punched his guard. However, the former Hawks superstar was not seriously hurt in the incident.
According to the statement issued by the team management, "The Atlanta Hawks are aware of a postgame altercation involving a fan who allegedly attacked VP of Basketball [and] TV analyst Dominique Wilkins. The fan was promptly arrested and taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department."
Michel, 36, is a suit maker for the players in the area of Atlanta. During an investigation, he told the police that Wilkins owes him some money for suits that he purchased few years back. He asked Wilkins several times for the return of the money but he did not bother at all and finally he decided to act upon some street justice. However, it did turn out to be beneficial for him as he is in police custody now.
The Hawks spokesperson, Arthur Triche, said, “The Rashan S. Michel was promptly arrested and was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department;” At this time the Hawks have no additional information or comment regarding this situation.”
The players of both teams condemned such an unethical act, as Wilkins is respectful for both teams. Wilkins is the vice president and broadcaster for the Hawks. He served the team of Atlanta for twelve years (1982–1994). In addition to that, he played 27 games for Orlando during the 1998/99 season.
The dazzling Wilkins is one of the best dunkers in the history of National Basketball Association (NBA). He was NBA All-Star for nine times. For his athletic capabilities and famous pasteurized dunks, he earned a nickname "The Human Highlight Film."
During his basketball career, Wilkins was a stunt scorer and a magnificent finisher. He served NBA for 18 years and scored 26,668 points, grabbed 6,119 rebounds and 2,322 assists.
