Former NHL player Wade Belak remembered by friends and family –NHL News Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) and the ice hockey world was hit by another tragedy on Wednesday, August 31, as former player, Wade Belak, was found dead in his luxury condo in Toronto, due to him hanging himself according to a police statement about the
cause of death.
Like two other players that also passed away this year, Belak was concluded to have been going through a tough phase in his life which ultimately ended with him taking his own life.
“All I know is that it is still under investigation”, Belak’s mother told a news channel on September 2 during a phone interview. “The only thing I can tell you is he did not die of natural causes”.
At first it was speculated that the 35-year-old also faced the same fate as New York Derek Boogaard and Vancouver Canucks, Ryan Rypien by having a drug overdose, but it was later learnt that it was by hanging himself.
After nearly 14 seasons in the NHL, Belak had made a special place in the heart of not only fans but also his dear friends and family members, who up until now are still in total shock over what happened.
"He was a very special guy and was loved by everyone", retired player Tie Domi said about Belak. "He was a teammate, a great, great teammate. He was a special kid".
This certainly put pressure on the NHL management to take action and prevent any further casualties of this sort due to pitiful reasons with players either during their careers or later on after retirement.
"NHL Clubs and our fans should know that every avenue will be explored and every option pursued in the furtherance of this objective", said the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA).
Friends and family of Wade attended a private ceremony at Woodmont Christian Church Sunday, in order to come together and express their special memories of the colourful player.
Wade Belak will not only be remembered by his friends and family but will rather be remembered from people of all walks of life which had at some moment entertained them.
