Bernard Casoni, the man who guided Evian-Thonon-Gaillard to Ligue 1, has been replaced by 44-year-old Uruguayan Pablo Correa who resigned from his post http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Nancy-c38468 Lorraine coach at the end of the 2010/2011 Ligue 1 campaign
Former Nancy Lorraine coach Pablo Correa has been named as the new coach of newly-promoted Ligue 1 outfit, Evian TG with immediate effect.
The 44-year-old Uruguayan was one of the longest serving managers in the history of Nancy Lorraine. Correa played 119 games for Nancy Lorraine from 1995 to 2000 and following his retirement, the former striker took charge as the coach of the Lorraine-based
club in 2002.
Coaching Nancy from 2002 to 2011, the Montevideo-born Uruguayan led to a Ligue 2 triumph in the 2004-2005 Ligue 2 campaign. In the same campaign, Nancy won the Coupe de la Ligue which was the last silverware the club won.
However, under mysterious circumstances, Correa left his position as coach of Nancy Lorraine.
However, Bernard Casoni of Evian TG chose to walk away from his post as coach of the club after guiding them to their first-ever Ligue 1 campaign. Under Casoni, Evian made a great start to their first campaign in France’s top tier and by the end of the second
half of the current campaign, Evian were in 11th place with 22 points.
Just before Christmas eve, Casoni found out that he won’t be offered a new contract at the end of the current campaign which was pretty surprising given how the team had performed under him. In his first season, the 50-year-old guided Evian to Ligue 1 football,
something that was not expected of the club.
An Evian statement issued read, "Given the news that came out about the non-extension of Bernard Casoni's contract beyond the end of the current season, it was decided with his agreement to free him from the final few months of his contract."
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 player also spoke about his decision to walk away from the club.
"I decided to leave with a positive record. I'd like to thank ETG for the sporting adventure I had here and the confidence they placed in me," Casoni said.
Pablo Correa’s first test as coach of Evian will come when his side faces Ligue 2 side Metz in the last 64 of the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 this Sunday.
