Former National Hockey League coach Mike Keenan hopes to returns after break of three years -NHL Update
Mike Keenan, a former National Hockey League (NHL) coach who spent time with many teams in the league, also won Stanley Cup as a coach and has records for being one of the coaches who have won most matches in the league, hopes to return after a long break.
Keenan was associated with ice hockey league for more than 25 years and spent most of his lifetime as a coach with different teams and did his job pretty, for which he is still remembered. He last done a head coach’s job in 2008-2009 and took a three year
break but now after an eventful last season, he wants to join the league again and feels like he still has time to do it.
The 62-year-old feels that he still has got enough knowledge, love for the game and intellect which will help him become a great coach again, like he was most of his career. He does not if he would get a call or not he would love if it happens, as he said,
"I'd love to coach back in the League. You never know if the game is going to call you back or not. I still have the intellect for it, the knowledge and the passion for the game."
There are many other examples as well of coaches doing well even when they were old so this gives him a chance to make a comeback.
Former coach of seven teams in the NHL, gave examples of Scotty Bowman and Ken Hitchcock who did brilliantly well even when they were in their 60s and 70s and feels like he will do the same but he does not know if it really would happen, as he added,
"[Scotty] Bowman coached almost until he was 70. [Ken] Hitchcock set a good example. He's the oldest coach in the League (60) and won Coach of the Year. I know if I can get back in the League I can do a superb job. Whether that will ever happen, I have no
idea."
Keenan coached Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames in the NHL.
