Former National Hockey League forward Eddie Olczyk to be inducted into US Hockey Hall of fame
Former National Hockey League (NHL) player and coach, Eddie Olczyk would be inducted into US Hockey Hall of fame on the 15th of October, in order to pay him the tribute for his services for the game.
The ceremony would be held in Dallas, in which total of 3 former hockey players will be inducted into hall of fame for all of their contributions for the game. Other than Olczyk, there would be Mike Modano and Lou Lamoriello who would have the privilege
of becoming half of famers.
The 46-year-old former forward player was extremely happy on the induction and thinks it is an honour for him to be there. He also disclosed that he had been waiting for this day and the moment for a long time and he admitted that it was always on his mind
that he would be a hall of famer one day. Talking to NHL.com, former Pittsburgh Penguins’ coach was very excited and he could not wait for the day as he said,
"I'm extremely honored and humbled. It's just something that I was hoping for, for a long time. I'd be lying if I didn't think it was going to happen at some point, but to have it happen now, it's certainly a great thrill. Everybody's really excited. It's
going to be a great night and I'm just really looking forward to it."
Olczyk was drafted 3rd overall in the first round of the 1984 NHL Draft by Chicago Blackhawks and made his NHL debut for them in the same year. He had a pretty good start as he went for 50 points in the opening season and improved that in the
second season by getting an average of one point per game. He scored 79 points in 79 games for it.
The Chicago, Illinois native went on to play for six different teams in the NHL and they were Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
After finishing his career in 1999-2000 season, he became coach of Penguins in 2003 and did the job until 2005.
