Former New England Patriots’ Mark Anderson joins Buffalo Bills on 4-year $27 million deal-NFL News
The Buffalo Bills have moved a step further in the campaign to strengthen their defensive unit and confirmed on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, the signing of former New England Patriots’ defensive end, Mark Anderson, to a multiyear deal.
None of the parties have officially disclosed the terms of the deal, but some reports have quoted people privy to the development as saying that it is a four-year, $27 million contract.
The payout includes $8 million guaranteed money. Other terms of the deal were not available.
Anderson’s signing has come a week after Bills doled out the hefty amount of $100 million to sign linebacker, Mario Williams. It has $50 million as guaranteed money.
It is rare for Bills to come with such a splash-out but Williams’ signing reflects on the changing financial trends at the team’s headquarters.
Bills’ general manager, Buddy Nix, called Anderson’s deal good one that came at the right time.
He said:
"It really is a big deal for us and an exciting time. We think this made us a lot better. This guy's about as productive as anybody around for the number of snaps he played."
The signing comes as another welcome development for the team’s fans, who are frustrated over the team’s consistent failing.
Anderson himself is also said to be pleased with the outcome. He said that he was excited to join the team next season and admitted to be unable to hide the excitement over getting the opportunity with Bills.
He said:
"Words can't express how I'm feeling. I'm in a blessed situation right now. I'm going to try and help the Bills, and Bills Nation, and try to take it to a whole other level."
The player conceded that he had tried to explore opportunities of moving elsewhere in the league but remained unsuccessful. Finally, he added, Mario Williams helped him to get the breakthrough with Bills.
The player said he was satisfied with the outcome of his negotiations with the management.
It is not clear to the player yet what sort of arrangement he is going to work with. Even Bills’ coach, Chan Gailey, said it was too premature to determine the role Anderson will be getting, but added that the situation was going to be clearer with the start
of the training camp and regular season.
Gailey said:
"Don't put us in a corner yet about where everyone's going to be. We've got some good football players, and we're going to make sure the best football players get on the field."
Bills also confirmed re-signing of safety, Bryan Scott, to an unspecified deal. The veteran player will return to Buffalo into sixth year of his association with the team.
