Former New York Giants star Michael Strahan says Osi Umenyiora not good enough – NFL News
New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora remained in the limelight during the last few months owing to his deal demands and his relationship with the team management.
Osi’ statements and the response from the team management that seemed a bit reluctant to offer a hefty deal to the defensive end were brought under discussion many times.
Osi and Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, were also reportedly involved in an argument after passing unpleasing remarks about each other.
However, the Giants and Osi eventually agreed to a new contract which will guarantee a payout of $6 million to the player in 2012.
When the deal matter was still pending, Osi got so dejected that he decided not to make any comment on the situation.
When he finally received the deal, he took a sigh of relief and said that he would be able to concentrate on his game.
That certainly was an encouraging sign for the team as well as the player, but here is the twist in the tale.
Osi’s contract has once again come in the limelight and it could lead to a controversy, again.
Former Giants player Michael Strahan has now said that the Giants have robbed Osi by giving him the deal, which according to Strahan, is not good enough.
Talking to the New York Post, Strahan said that he would have rejected such an offer if the Giants had offered it to him. He also went on to say that he would have preferred staying out of the team for a complete season over playing under such a meagre contract.
He said:
"To be honest with you, it's flat-out robbery.”
He added:
"If it were me, I would have sat at home and I wouldn't have played. That's just me. I've threatened to do that in my time and I ended up getting what I wanted. Osi's a different mind-set than me. I'm probably a little more, 'I don't care what people think.' "
Both Giants and Osi have amicably resolved the contract matter and it will be in the interest of both parties not to pay any attention to these remarks, which can certainly trigger another controversy.
