Former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer prefers Tony Romo over Eli Manning – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has once again come into the limelight and this time it is comparison with his New York Giants counterpart Eli Manning that has brought him on the scene.
Comparing the two quarterbacks, former Giants receiver Amani Toomer, who has played with Manning for five seasons, surprisingly picked Romo over Manning.
Talking to the "Movin' the Chains" show on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Toomer mentioned Romo’s statistics and said that the Cowboys quarterback is more productive than Manning.
By the looks of the things, Manning certainly has an edge over Romo as the former has got two Super Bowl rings while the latter has not even played a Super Bowl game.
Manning’s playoff record is also far better than Romo who, despite being a player of great talent, has not been able to win even any championship for the team.
Last year, Romo’ was performance was marvellous and he was particularly impressive as far as accuracy is concerned. Although Cowboys were eliminated after the regular season, Romo’s performance was still appreciated.
Sharing his views, Toomer commented:
“Tony Romo is probably, if you look at it, statistically, he's probably the best quarterback in the National Football Conference (NFC) East."
Referring to the last season’s performance of Romo and Manning, Toomer said:
"You look at Eli Manning and what he does in the fourth quarter, but you talk about consistency, talking about 31 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions, that guy (Romo) can play."
As compared to Romo, Manning is considered a better option when it comes to playing under pressure. Manning has more fourth-quarter comebacks to his name than Romo, who at times finds it difficult to register more scoring drives.
Despite preferring Romo over Manning, Toomer has also acknowledged that Romo is unable to perform that well under pressure. He said:
"At crunch time, he's not as good as Eli. But every other time, he's pretty darn good.”
It must be encouraging for Romo to receive appreciation from the player who has played for Giants and even won a Super Bowl ring with them. He has already been criticised for his inability to win the title and these remarks might provide him some breathing
space.
