Former New York Islanders assistant coach Scott Allen appointed as Peoria Rivermen’s assistant coach
Scott Allen, former professional hockey player and assistant coach of New York Islanders, has been appointed as an assistant coach of National Hockey League’s (NHL) St. Louis Blues’ affiliates Peoria Rivermen which play in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Scott Allen played for many teams, mainly in the All-American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) like Troy Sabres, Carolina Thunderbirds, Winston-Sale Thunderbirds, Erie Panthers, Greensboro Monarchs, Cincinnati Cyclones, Flint Bulldogs, Utica
Bulldogs, Fort Worth Fire and Johnstown Chiefs, in his playing career, all the minor league teams but never played for any NHL side.
5-foot-10, 180 pounder player who used to play in the centre position, started his coaching career at Johnstown Chiefs, the ECHL’s team where he had finished his hockey career as a player in 1996-1997 season. He spent six years there, first year as an assistant
coach and other five years as a head coach.
Few years later he left that post to go as the assistant coach of San Antonio Rampage of AHL, after which he worked as assistant coach of Omaha and Lowell in the same league.
Scott Allen joined his former team mate and name fellow, Scott Gordon, who used to play with him at Johnstown Chiefs in ECHL. He worked there as Gordon’s assistant for just less than 3 years, as he joined on 20th July 2009 and left that position
on 16th April 2012.
46-year-old, Allen looked very excited on his new appointment while talking on Monday. He told that he is very excited about coming to Peoria and joining St. Louis organisation as he said,
“I’m excited about coming to Peoria for sure. Coming to the St. Louis organization is a great step and I’m excited to join the Blues and Rivermen”.
Dave Allison, Rivermen’s new head coach also had good things to say about Allen as he told Allen was the person they wanted. They are glad that Allen chose to join them instead of Los Angeles King. Allison talked about Allen’s success and abilities as he
said,
“We identified him very early in the process as the guy we wanted. Everyone in the Blues organization felt comfortable with him. He was being pursued hard by the L.A. Kings, so we’re glad to have him. He’s worked with NHL defensemen, had good success in
AHL player development and handling video”.
