Former New York Jets’ quarterback, Joe Namath says Sanchez will learn from mistakes – NFL News Update
Former New York Jets’ quarterback, Joe Namath, who led his team to the Super Bowl title, has come forward to support the current Jets' quarterback, Mark Sanchez, saying he would be fine with the right roster.
Namath feels that Sanchez would be able to learn from his mistakes and rebound to give a better performance.
Namath recently viewed a documentary made on his life by HBO in which a young quarterback who made a lot of mistakes by throwing too many interceptions soon learnt his lesson and went on to win the Super Bowl.
Namath watched the film on Wednesday and feels that Sanchez can be like him.
"He needs the help around him. He presses at times. He wants to do things because he's expected to. He’s going to be fine " Namath said.
Sanchez has been bombarded with mounting criticism towards the end of the season as he failed to lead the Jets to the playoffs this season.
Angry critics that included Jets’ fans were dismayed at Sanchez’s performance this season. They have written angry comments regarding the player in the newspaper and on the internet.
The quarterback’s capability to lead the team came under serious questioning. Also many doubted him as being the long term answer to the problems faced by the Jets.
Amidst all the criticism raining down on Sanchez, Jets' coach, Rex Ryan and the general manager have been quite vocal and consistent with their support for the quarterback.
They have repeatedly reiterated their support for Sanchez with Ryan saying he has immense confidence in him, while the general manager pointed out that the new offensive coach, Tony Sparano would help Sanchez in being more consistent and bring him back on
track.
However, some anonymous players recently attacked Sanchez with one player terming him to be “lazy” and content”.
Ryan came forward as usual to support Sanchez, saying an anonymous source did not represent the whole team.
Even the owner, Woody Johnson supported Sanchez, observing that he was the most hard working player in the Jets’ team.
However, recently Johnson made it clear that it was not a 100 percent surety that Sanchez would be starting the next season and he also did not rule out the possibility of considering Peyton Manning along with other options for next season.
Though that move could be an attempt to motivate Sanchez in performing better as another Jets’ player, LaDainian Tomlinson had suggested, yet Johnson’s statement had initiated speculation over Sanchez’s future with the Jets.
Tomlinson had suggested that Sanchez was a bit “pampered” as there was no one to take over his job.
In the current context, Namath, who has become the latest supporter of Sanchez, may have provided him with the much needed support he needed at this stage.
