Former New York Mets Mike Pelfrey signed by Minnesota Twins-MLB Update
Mike Pelfrey has agreed to a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins. After recovering from surgery, he is ready to resume his major league expedition.
He has been non-tendered by the New York Mets, mainly because he could not play for them throughout the last season.
Pelfrey started a couple of games in 2012 but as he sustained an injury, he had to go through surgery.
Pelfrey is one of those starters that have not performed at their potential yet.
The 2012 season was being considered as the beginning of his best time as starter. Unfortunately, his injury ruined all prospects. Unsurprisingly, he was extremely disappointed.
As he has rehabilitated now, he has a point to prove.
For example, Pelfrey will be looking to make sure he attains those objectives that he set before the beginning of the 2012 season.
The fact Pelfrey underwent Tommy John surgery has created doubts about his effectiveness as hurler.
The Twins will be aware of this. For the same reason perhaps, they have hired him only for one year.
They will extend his contract only if Pelfrey performs consistently during the upcoming season. It means doing something impressive in the 2013 season for Pelfrey is compulsory.
In many ways, his future as a starting hurler hinges on the way he helps the Twins win games.
Pelfrey is preparing for the challenge rigorously. As soon as his rehabilitation completed, he started throwing pitches in an attempt to regain form.
Pelfrey has stayed away from injuries largely in his career, except for what happened to him in 2012. He is looking forward to avoid experiencing any such thing again in future.
"I've never been hurt in my life. This is the first time. I didn't know how my body was going to respond. But I haven't felt anything, a twinge, a tweak, anything in my elbow," he said. "So something crazy would have to happen for me to not be ready in spring
training."
Throughout the offseason, Pelfrey has practiced hard.
He has tried to throw all those pitches available in his repertoire.
To what extent he can convert those practice sessions into incredible shows at the mound will be known during the 2013 season.
