Former New York Mets’ starting pitcher Taylor Buchholz shares his experience with youngsters
The Former New York Mets’ starting pitcher Taylor Buchholz is currently a free agent after spending a season with the southern New York based baseball franchise.
He is not playing at the moment, but he is working hard indoors sharing his past experiences with youngsters at Jeff Smith’s Springfield High baseball staff in Philadelphia.
“I want to teach them how to relax. I know when I was at my best. I was relaxed out there. That’s when I had the best focus. It definitely feels weird,” Buchholz says. “There’s a strange void, and a little jealousy.” Buchholz pauses, looks you in the eye, says that being back inside the blue and yellow walls of the Springfield gym, barely a half-mile from the modest brick house he shares with his wife, Ashley, is precisely where he needs to be right now. “I’m in a good place. I’m excited about getting my feet wet with coaching.”
A five year veteran with huge throwing skills, Buchholz has played with four different franchises in the past. Starting from his career from the Houston Astros plate-farm, he went on to play for the Colorado Rockies, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets.
Though he is a good player, but he was out from the Mets last season and could not find another contract for his future. Later not only he filed for free agency, but he had also made his mind not to sign again with the Mets’ if they even showed some interest to add him. Some National League teams are already talking to him and with his agent, but still no news has come out in the media regarding Buchholz affiliation with any National League team.
On the other hand, Buchholz is spending some time with Jeff Smith’s Springfield High baseball staff and trying to give pitching tips to youngsters who are just entering into a new set of play. Who knows, Buchholz’s presence at the Jeff Smith’s Springfield High baseball staff, might make some of these young players inspire from his lessons and they potentially make a Major League appearance within few years’ time.
