Former New York Yankees’ starter Pascual Perez found dead in Don Gregorio – MLB Update
Former New York Yankees’ pitcher Pascual Perez was found dead in the Dominican Republic, reports a leading sports website. Perez was surrounded with controversies in his colourful 11-year Major League Baseball career.
While Perez faced several drug suspensions in his early career, he is best known for getting lost on a highway while trying to get to the ballpark to start for the Braves in 1992. Detailed investigation reports are expected to come out in the next few days.
“I feel like a heart attack,” Perez said at the time. “I think I get fired, maybe. Boss Torre say he fine me $100. I say, ‘What you say, $100?’ He smile, say, ‘Ciento pesos.’ I smile. Ciento pesos worth only 10 bucks.”
Perez also had punctuality issues during his MLB career. He was extremely late for the Spring Training Sessions in the early 1990’s. Perez once showed up just a little late and he celebrated the moment by displaying a vanity license plate that read “Just
on Time”. In 1992, he tested positive for cocaine to be suspended for the entire season.
Perez was 35-years-old when that incident took place and he never tried to pitch in the Majors again. After calling it a career, the pitcher moved back to his home country. The source further claimed that Perez found dead in an apparent robbery on Friday
in the town of Don Gregorio. The prosecutor involved in the investigation that whoever killed him was looking for money in the house.
“They can come and test me again any time. Right now,” he said of drug scandal. “Let’s go. ... God, if I’m lying, I should go blind. I’m tired of people looking at me like I killed someone in the street.”
Perez’s ex-wife found him dead early in the morning and immediately informed the police. Investigators said he seemed to have been killed about 8 hours earlier. Former Yankees’ pitcher had a fractured skull when his body was recovered.
His body was found with a big head wound in the west of Dominican Republic capital of Santo Domingo. The house appeared to have been searched by the murderer, said the police and their assistants.
