Former Pakistan Olympians looking at past glory with Asian Champion Trophy victory
Pakistan’s hockey team after facing through tough times for many years is working on the right track towards getting back to previous hockey glory. The former Olympians and players of the Pakistan hockey team are agreed on this point that the gold medal
in the tournament will raise the level of sports in the country.
The Greenshirts are going to battle against arch-rival Indians for the crown of the tournament. Having victories in the maiden versions of the Champions Trophy, Asian Cup, Asian Games and the World Cup, there have been great chances for Pakistan to lift
the first edition of the Asian Champions Trophy.
Former great names of the nation side including Hasan Sardar, Ahmed Alam, Samiullah, Salim Sherwani, Jan Muhammad and Iftikhar Syed expressed compliments for the national side.
One of the legendary names in history Samiullah Khan, who was famously known as flying horse, was of the opinion that the national sport hockey was their pride and they wanted the Greenshirts to lift the title as they had won in the Asian Games. He added,
“Hockey is our pride and we would like to see them winning the title like Asian Games to keep Pakistan’s flag flying high again in China.”
He was quite sure that the team comprised of youngster players would put additional efforts to maintain their previous record of winning the inaugural editions.
Ahmed Alam, the former skipper of the national side also wanted a win in the tournament. He stated that it was a great opportunity for the players to prove their worth at the international level. In his view, the gold medal is worth more than silver but
they only needed fate along with a better performance. He said, “Win matters more than securing silver. We need bit of luck and better play from the youngsters.”
Another veteran player of the past namely Hasan Sardar also expressed best wishes for the Greenshirts. He stated that the national side must win the title-clash with a better game-plan, attacking strategies and an effective defensive plan. At the same time,
Sardar suggested the players to play a striking game in order to maintain their pressure over the rivals.
