Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Test Captain Salman Butt determined to make an international comeback
Salman Butt has pledged that despite being investigated for spot-fixing, he is still hopeful that he will make his comeback in international cricket. The former Test Captain is under suspension by the International Cricket Council
on suspicions of involvement in spot-fixing.
Butt, along with Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, is waiting for his trial by the ICC which is set to begin in January. The hearing will decide the outcome of the spot-fixing saga. Unfortunately for the trio, rumours have been
circulating that they will be banned for life by the ICC. Some critics have also gone so far as to say that the ICC has already decided to slap punishments on the players.
Such rumours have dented ICC’s credibility as a neutral organization. The tainted players have also been very vocal against the biased attitude of the world’s cricketing body. The lawyers of the trio have also shown their complete
mistrust in the International Cricket Council and all this has happened well before the hearing of the suspended players.
Responding to the suggestions that his cricketing days are over, Salman Butt said, “I would certainly not like to think like that. I still remain positive and I know what I’m made of and where I’ve come from, and how I’ve played
my cricket. Believe me, it has been a lot of passion all throughout my life. The love of the game has got me there and that love is bigger than anything, any corrupt thing, which exists.”
Last month, the ICC revealed that it had gathered enough evidence to indict the players; the situation took a nasty turn when the ICC’s Chief Executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 stated that the ICC would be disappointed if the three Pakistani
players were not found guilty. Such statements by Lorgat have definitely put a big question mark on the intentions of the ICC in this corruption fiasco.
Earlier, the three Pakistani players were allegedly involved in dealings with a bookie by the name of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed. According to the initial details, the three players conspired with Majeed to deliberately bowl no-balls in a Test
match against England (at Lord’s). The players were then put under investigation after their links with the bookie were unearthed by a British Tabloid
“News of the World”. However, no official charges were ever levelled against the suspected players.
