Former Pakistan cricketers hail team for good show against England
Former Pakistani cricketers are all praise for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 and his men for their stupendous performance against England in the first Test of the three-match series in Dubai, as Pakistan romped to victory with two days to spare.
The former Pakistan captain and middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088, said that a convincing victory against the world number one Test side inside three days has come as a big surprise.
"I expected our team to play well but I didn't expect the world's number one Test side to capitulate inside three days, that was a big surprise," said Malik while speaking to media personnel after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 outclassed England comprehensively on Thursday.
Going into the series Pakistan had beaten http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in Test series, but it was believed that Pakistan would have difficulty in countering the English threat. Malik was pleasantly surprised, and was happy that Misbah and his men silenced their
critics via a powerful performance.
"I think our team has proven it is doing consistently well and will only further improve from here," the 29-year-old all-rounder added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monty-Panesar-c2024, it would have been a different ball game in Dubai.
"I think their selection was not right for the conditions and they should have gone in with two spinners instead of only Swann. They misread the pitch and I thought they banked heavily on their pacers," Qadir said.
Another former captain of Pakistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, feels that England lost the series opener because they failed to adapt to the conditions coming out of a long break from competitive cricket. He further added that Pakistan has gained a psychological edge
over Strauss and his men, and urged the Pakistani team to maintain the pressure in the ensuing matches.
"Their batsmen struggled to adapt to the conditions,” observed the legendary Pakistan batsman. "Pakistan now clearly has the psychological edge over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and the secret now is to maintain this pressure in the remaining matches," he insisted.
Second Test of the series starts in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
