Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players lash out at the decision to defer the verdict
Former Pakistan greats, Zaheer Abbas and Asif Iqbal have lashed out at the ICC for their decision to defer the verdict of the hearing of the case against the suspended Pakistani players. The ICC’s tribunal was hearing the spot-fixing case against Salman
Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435 has stated, “The ICC has kept the players hostage for the last five months and now they have deferred the decision, which is inexplicable. Because the players will continue to remain suspended they cannot play at any level, cannot practice so
they are virtually out of the World Cup.”
The former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal agrees with Abbas and has spoken against the deferral. Iqbal said, “The ICC has taken so much time on this case and have spent so much money on it, and yet could not take a decision. It is strange. I am surprised at
the delay.”
The 5-day hearing began on the 6th of January and the tribunal was due to reach a conclusion on Tuesday, January 11. The tribunal’s commissioner Michael Beloff has justified the decision saying that the verdict has implications on the players
and the cricketing world as a whole. Hence the judges want to deliver the decision after considering every aspect of the case.
Amir’s lawyer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Karim, is satisfied on the delay as he had requested that the decision by announced on a later date after due contemplation over the case. Amir’s lawyers are hoping to use the player’s clean history in international cricket and his
age to defend the left arm pace-man.
The case of Butt and Asif, however, appears to have gotten complicated after differences between the two grew through the course of the hearing. Butt was questioned by Asif’s lawyer Alexander Cameron during the early stages of the hearing. Butt’s lawyer
returned the favor on Monday when he cross-examined the fast bowler Asif.
The World Cup is due to begin on the 19th of February in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. The deferral means that even if the players are freed from all charges, their chances of playing the World Cup are over.
