Former Pakistani Captain Aamir Sohail proposed the enforcement of DRS in Tests and ODI – Cricket News Update
In an interview in Lahore on August 1, 2011, former Pakistani captain Aamer Sohail said that ICC should enforce the use of Decision Review System in Test and One-Dayers.
The 44-year-old former cricketer said that ICC should use its authority and convince all the boards to use the DRS system which reduces the chances of error to a great extent.
Sohail was adamant that DRS much be used in the international matches to avoid controversies and play transparent game. He referred to the recent issues raised in the India-England Test series because of the absence of fully functional DRS system.
Sohail added that the problems and unsatisfactory decisions given in the Test matches at Lord’s and Trent Bride have highlighted the importance of using the Decision Review System.
Aamer Sohail said, “"The system is not 100 per cent accurate as we have seen but if it can help reduce human errors by even 60 to 65 per cent it would be very effective for the game."
Sohail said that he acknowledges the role if technology and believes that its utilization can help reduce human errors, therefore, he called the DRS a useful and beneficial addition to the International cricket.
The former chief selector of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 said that he is really upset over the fact that some boards are against the use of this useful system and are reluctant to make best use of the advanced technology available. He pointed out that even the broadcasters
have the important role to play in this regard.
The recent 2 Test matches of the Pataudi cup have brought forth so many issues regarding the components of the DRS technology including the issue that hot-spot is not fool-proof.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aamer-Sohail-c41418. He said that when the governing body of cricket, ICC made it mandatory in the annual
meeting held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919 then why the member boards are not using it.
Sohail demanded from ICC that instead of giving choice to the cricket boards, it should make DRS a mandatory part of International cricket. The former selector added that either this technology should be adopted completely or scraped from the world of cricket.
Partial use is what is raising questions and issues.
Sohail deemed this technology as a value addition and urged http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 to take a firm stand over it.
