Former Pakistani captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435 expressed his desire to run PCB
Yesteryear Pakistani cricket captain, Zaheer Abbas, expressed his keen interest in heading the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) after severely criticizing the board’s failure to amend its inadequate management.
The former captain blamed PCB’s Chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, for his “poor administrative policies” and his failure to save the failing cricket structure in Pakistan.
Abbas admitted to have had “high expectations” from the chairman when he was appointed as the “think-tank” of PCB two years back. However, Butt disappointed him “beyond imagination”. He said that there have been “numerous calls
for changes” but the PCB chairman fails to take notice of them.
Abbas further voiced his concern for the players saying that the young blood of the team needs proper guidance and he offered his services to do so if asked to lead the board.
He said that it is very unfortunate to witness what the World feels about last year’s Twenty20 World Cup champions. He lamented the fact that Butt, being a “veteran administrator” is overlooking the sinking condition of Pakistani
cricket.
He also commented about the lack of confidence that the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its member’s board have in the PCB. Even though the country’s security concerns have prevented the board to conduct International cricket
series, the ongoing controversies have also contributed to the fact that the Pakistani cricket is unable to flourish in its true sense.
The recent “run-away incident” by Pakistani wicket keeper, Zulqarnain Haider, last week has shoveled the PCB into the spotlight once again after the spot-fixing allegations on Pakistani players during this year’s summer tour of
England. These allegations have forced the ICC to issue an ultimatum to PCB to mend its policies.
Abbas gave a very candid opinion about this issue, stating that the “PCB needs to take damage control steps” to restore confidence as the ICC is now being involved in every major decision regarding Pakistani players. He said this
to point out the lack of confidence and calculated decision making, as the PCB selectors need to have clearance from the ICC regarding the “preliminary 2011 World Cup squad.
He gave his nod to the harsh criticism that PCB faces every now and then from the former players and the media saying that “criticism only comes when there is something wrong somewhere”.
He also applauded former captain Younis Khan, who recently saved Pakistan’s first Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the U.A.E, saying that a lot of “injustice” has been faced by the legendary Test batsman but he chose to silence
his critics with his bat.
