Former Pakistani cricketers question ICC and BCCI’s stance on Vinod Kambli’s accusations – Cricket News Update
Former cricketers from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stance on Vinod Kambli’s accusations.
Kambli claimed that 1996 World Cup semi-final between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Eden Gardens, was fixed and Indians lost the match on purpose.
BCCI and ICC have not given much importance to Kambli’s claims. The president of ICC, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharadchandra-Govindrao-Pawar-c89751, has questioned Kambli’s honesty to the sport, asking why did it took him 15-years to come out.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084, the former wicket-keeper batsman from Pakistan, has dared BCCI to carry out investigations, if they are clean.
Sensing something devious in this case, Latif said, “This is a former India player making a serious accusation and yet even Sharad Pawar in his capacity as ICC president has dismissed the issue outright which is strange. I don't
see what is wrong in holding an investigation even if Kambli has come out with claims after 15 years. If there was no hanky panky in the match what has the BCCI or Pawar have to fear.”
Latif backed Kambli and pointing towards the punishment imposed on three Pakistani cricketers, who were involved in match fixing, held that Kambli came forth only because now players feel that personals involved in such acts can
be apprehended.
Latif maintained that in the past, cricketing bodies have tried to conceal such matters and thus players did not come in the open with such claims.
Kambli, in a debate hosted by Starnews, divulged that during team meetings before the semi-final it was finalised that India will bat first, if toss went their way, but then skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Azharuddin-c76823 bowled first, which was apprehensive.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Nawaz-Malik-c88831, the right-arm pacer, feels BCCI are trying to cover up the matter as they fear something may come up verifying India’s part in the scandal.
Nawaz said, “Don’t forget Kambli is talking about a match where India was captained by a man Mohammad Azharuddin who was later banned for life for fixing and yet the Indians are not willing to take the issue seriously. It shows
their double standards.”
