Former Philadelphia Phillies Ugueth Urbina freed from Venezuelan jail-MLB Update
Ugueth Urbina has his 14-year imprisonment sentence cut short, after he showed discipline and positive change in behaviour during more than half a decade stay in the jail.
He was punished for plotting a murder back in 2005.
As a major league closer, he played for a number of organisations.
However, with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins, he had some notable memories.
In particular, the Marlins became the team where he earned his World Series winning ring. He recorded saves during the important matches of their series back in 2003.
Apart from having the experience of throwing in the high profile matches, Urbina was a regular member of the All-Star game rosters.
He is renowned for restricting batters and disallowing them to produce hits under pressure.
Certainly, being sentenced marred his reputation as a quality major league closer.
Before his imprisonment was announced, he was respected and recognized as down to earth type of individual.
One bad event in one’s life can darken all the achievements attained. This is exactly what has happened to Urbina.
He allegedly committed a mistake and paid a heavy price for it.
One of his teammates in the Phillies, Bobby Abreu is of the view that irrespective of the jail sentence, he is a great human being.
He emphasises that those who are familiar with his personality admire him.
"I'm very happy because my buddy is currently free," Abreu said. "Anyone who knows him well, knows his humanity, regardless of the (incident). I love and respect him a lot."
Furthermore, Abreu is happy that his friend has been freed from the prison and allowed to spend life without constraints.
He is looking forward to his immediate adaptation to the new environment, as Urbina lived for almost six years away from it.
After learning pains of loneliness and being away from family, Urbina will be humbled.
He will be trying to bring certain changes in his life so that mistakes committed before by him are not repeated.
At the moment, he will be reintegrating with his family and making sure he returns to the normal life.
