Former Phoenix Suns executive Rick Welts hired as the new President of Golden State Warriors: NBA

Former Phoenix Suns executive Rick Welts, who resigned from his post as the president and chief executive of the Phoenix Suns last month, didn’t have to wait too long to acquire another job of the same nature.
On Monday, 25th September, 2011, Golden State Warriors hired the 58-year-old Welts to take over the responsibilities as the new president and chief operating officer at the franchise. Welts will be reporting directly
to the owners Peter Guber and Joe Lacob and will manage Golden State Warriors’ business operations.
Golden State introduced Rick as their new chief executive at the team’s practice facility on Tuesday. He replaces Robert Rowell, who parted ways with the Warriors in June. Commenting on his new post, Welts expressed his full commitment
in making the Warriors one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.
"It's hard to express how excited I am to embrace this opportunity and be part of a collective group in building the Warriors into a championship calibre organization. I've been most impressed with Joe Lacob and Peter Guber's vision
and desire to do something great. Not good, but great. Many of the ingredients are here.”
Welts, who is the only executive in NBA at present who has openly claimed that he is g*y, also praised the incredible fan support, marketable structure of the Bay Area and a rich history of the Warriors and vowed to take it a step
ahead.
Joe Lacob also branded Rick Welts as the best man available for the job.
"His track record in all facets of the business -- sponsorship, marketing, public relations, event management, team services, merchandising -- and his ability to be strategically creative and cutting-edge make him the ideal candidate
to lead our organization," Joe Lacob said.
Rick Welts has also worked for the NBA front office and was the third top executive in command, before announcing his retirement in 1999. In 2002, he joined phoenix Suns as president and received an additional title of the Chief
Executive Officer in the last two seasons.
