Former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antwaan Randle-El to retire – NFL News
Former Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver, Antwaan Randle-El, is expected to call it quits from the National Football League (NFL) in the near future after serving the professional league for over a decade.
Antwaan is a 2002 draft selection by Steelers and has played for the team during his two respective stints.
He last time tried the Detroit Lions in 2011 but having failed to win a place he looked to move on. Lions were not impressed by his tryout and that made the veterans’ career certainly over.
A section of media has claimed that his brother will announce retirement of the player from the pro league from Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois, on July 14.
Since his selection in 2002, he played continuously four seasons for Steelers and then moved on to join the Washington Redskins and spent a similar amount of time with them.
He returned to Steelers in 2010 but spent only a season.
It is pertinent to mention that the player has also brief careers in basketball and baseball, but his NFL’s tenure is the longest one. His Steelers’ stint was the highest point of his career.
So far, the team has not offered any thought on the player’s decision to retire. This can be due to the reason that the player has not officially announced it and once he makes it official, he is most likely to draw attention of his former colleagues and
bosses.
At the end of his career, he looked to extend his NFL run, weighing another shot at Steelers. Nevertheless, he could not have any chance given the team has recently consolidated its players’ strength, parting ways with a majority of veterans.
Wide receiver, Hines Ward, is one of Randle’s teammates, who have already become history in Pittsburgh. As a matter of fact, he has announced retirement and now works as an NFL analyst.
His counterpart, WR Mike Wallace, is one of the few players who have still managed to hang around, but certainly are into concluding phases of their respective careers. Wallace is one of the team’s veterans who can possibly play another couple of seasons.
