Former QB Brett Favre does not care New Orleans Saints placed a bounty on him - NFL News
The New Orleans Saints bounty scandal has put a question mark on many of the franchise’s achievements from 2009-11 especially their 2009 run to the Super Bowl.
When the bounty programme was first revealed many journalists found out that the Saints had placed a $ 35,000 bounty on former quarterback and legend, Brett Favre, during the 2009 National Football Conference (NFC) Championship game.
That game between the Saints and Favre’s Minnesota Vikings saw some of the roughest tackles ever made on a quarterback.
Favre was hit consistently and limped off the field for a period of time before returning to finish the game which the Vikings lost 31-28.
After most of the bounty scandal evidence was released last week by the National Football League (NFL) it was revealed that $ 5,000 were donated by New Orleans Saints assistant coach, Joe Vitt, while it was alleged before that Saints defence captain, Jonathan
Vilma, had put down $ 10,000 for knocking Favre out.
The quarterback himself though doesn’t seem to care that the Saints had placed bounties on him before the game.
Favre though is still disappointed that he did not lead Minnesota to victory in that game after they came so close and were just moments away from getting a spot in the Super Bowl.
In an interview with the NFL Network, Favre said.
"People ask me about it at home, because everyone back home was Saints fans. I grew up a Saints fan, an hour from the Superdome.”
He continued,
"What bothers me is we didn't win the game. And they didn't take me out of the game. They came close, but a lot of people have come close. I'm too stubborn to come out. Plus, that was kind of a big game. I'm not going to sit the last three minutes. I'm going
to go out there with bones sticking out of the skin, I'm going to finish it."
"I'm just upset we didn't win,"
Favre retired a season later and many Vikings fans still believe that they were robbed of the chance to make the Super Bowl due to the illegal and savage hits on Favre by Saints players.
