Former Real Madrid striker Ruben de la Red pleased with massive crowd support against Bayern Munich
Former Real Madrid midfielder, Ruben de la Red, has expressed delight at playing for the all-star Madrid side against Bundesliga outfit, Bayern Munich. The match was played on Sunday, June 5, which the Whites won by a massive 8-3 margin. The 26-year-old
was pleased to take the field after having been forced to retire due to a severe heart problem at a young age of 25.
Apart from De le Red, defensive midfielder Fernando Redondo also took part in the game. Redondo was regarded as de la Red’s role model when he started playing football. The Spanish considered himself fortunate to be a part of the all-stars line-up and to
have played alongside the legends.
Former veteran striker, Emilio Butragueno, also featured in the event. He was a part of Los Blancos for 11 years (1984-1995) and managed to make 341 La Liga appearances, bagging in 123 goals. At the age of 35 he finally said good-bye to professional football
after spending three years with the Club Celaya, a Mexican football club. Butragueno also scored during the all-star game on Sunday.
De la Red, on the other hand, thanked the fans for showing up in large numbers that helped a lot in lifting the morale and confidence of the players. He felt as if he was back in his old days where he used to be a regular part of the Madrid’s line-up.
The 26-year-old further added, “The stadium was also full and the fans responded very well. I’m excited but it is normal after playing alongside such great players in the history of our club.  Also I have been fortunate to share a few minutes with Fernando
Redondo who has been one of my role models.”
De la Red’s Madrid career was marred with injuries and he only got to make seven appearances for the club during his two-year spell. He netted in one League goal from those games.
Former Madrid striker, Devor Suker, told, “We played for a good cause, it was nice. We all have to be happy with our performance and for Bayern who will be grateful for their presence.”
Alfonso Perez, who was with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Sanz also featured in the start studded event.
