Former Saints fly half Shane Geraghty confirms his move to French Top 14 Side Brive
Northampton Saints fly half and centre Shane Geraghty has confirmed his move to join the French Top 14 side Brive. Earlier on Friday, May 20, French newspapers reported that Shane Geraghty is in talks with Brive to sign a one-year
contract with the French club.
However, the newspaper did not provide the details of the contract but stated that the information relating to the contract and the announcement should be expected after the Heineken Cup Final.
Leinster defeated the Northampton Saints 33 – 23 in the final of Heineken Cup, at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday May 21. Geraghty announced the move to Brive on his Twitter account on Saturday at the end of the match.
He wrote, “What a 24 hours it has been. Thanks for all the support, not just yesterday but for the past two years.”
Geraghty termed his stay at Saints as a rollercoaster ride. He said, “It's been emotional and somewhat of a rollercoaster ride.” He ended his statement with the word
“Au revoir.”
The move by Geraghty was always on the cards particularly due to the heavy competition for a place in the starting lineup at the number 10 position with Stephen Myler.
24-year-old Geraghty joined Northampton Saints in 2009. He has made 39 appearances for Saints and scored 162 points, which includes a try, 17 conversions, 40 penalties and a drop goal. However, out of the 39 appearances, Geraghty played as substitute in
22 games.
Geraghty is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 90 kg and is a Bablake School product. He started his professional senior rugby club career with London Irish in 2004.
Geraghty played his first game for Irish in 2004. He remained at London Irish until the end of 2008/09 season. He made 42 domestic and European appearances for the Irish and scored 127 points.
In 2007, Coventry born Geraghty’s exceptional performance for the London Irish earned him a call up as a fly half in the England national rugby union team’s squad. Geraghty played his first international game against France at Twickenham in March 2007.
He scored five points in the match and played a vital role in creating England’s only try of the match scored by Mike Tindall.
In 2008, Geraghty joined the England Saxons squad and his performance for the Saxons earned him call for Martin Johnson’s English rugby side. He so far has made six international appearances and scored five points.
In other news Irakli Natriashvili from Saint-Junine, Tasi Luafutu from Reds, Virgile Lacombe from Toulouse, Jacques Boussuge from Bath, Alexandre Barozzi, Arnaud Mignardi and Yann Fior from Biarritz have also been signed by the French club for next season’s
campaign.
