Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith gets engaged to Irish singer Morgan Deane
Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has reportedly got engaged to his 25-year-old girlfriend, Morgan Deane.
According to reports, the South Africa opener flew straight to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 following his team’s early exit from the ICC World Cup 2011 to be with his Irish singer girlfriend.
Confirming the former skipper’s engagement, Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s media officer Michael Owen-Smith said, “It is true. He actually became engaged on Sunday.”
However, this was not confirmed by Smith as he has been staying out of the limelight since he captained South Africa for the last time. Smith had announced before the ICC World Cup 2011 that he would be stepping down as the skipper of the national team after
the World Cup.
Smith, who has a Twitter page, has not been in contact with his fans. His last Twitter post dates back to 16 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391, 2011 and since then there has been complete silence from the left-handed opening batsman.
However, his girlfriend is still active on various social networking sites and has thanked fans for the congratulatory messages that have been Tweeted to her for getting engaged to the South Africa opener. One of her Tweets read, “Thank you all for the wonderful
messages. Your words make me smile.”
According to reports, Smith is making plans to finally tie the knot with Morgan and the relationship is destined to ring wedding bells soon in the coming future. Previously Smith has dated model Minki van der Westhuizen and teacher Brigitte Sarembock.
When the South Africa team reached home on 26 March, 2011, Smith was not with the squad- much to the disappointment of fans and journalists who were waiting for him. Instead, it was the coach Corrie van Zyl and team manager Mohammed Moosajee who faced the
media.
It was revealed that Smith would not be returning to South Africa until the end of the Indian Premier League which is set to begin from 8 April, 2011. Smith will be playing for Pune Warriors which will be captained by India’s all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Smith absence from the country also generated a rumour that he had in fact avoided to return to the country to evade tax as according to tax laws in South Africa, if a citizen stays out of the country for 183 days out of which 60 are consecutive, then the
individual is exempted from paying taxes.
However, Smith’s agent Craig Livingstone insisted that Smith had not committed any crime and like any other South African he was entitled to take the benefits of the tax laws.
