Former Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart returns to Chili Bowl – NASCAR news
According to an official press release from Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), Tony Stewart, three times NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion will be returning to Chili Bowl in the 27th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals with an intent of claiming the Golden Driller
for a third time.
Chili Bowl is a midget car racing event and according to NASCAR, it is the ‘biggest midget race of the year’. The inaugural event was held in 1987 and is annually held ever since at the Tulsa (Okla) Expo Centre in January, 2 weeks after Christmas. In 2013,
the event starts on Tuesday, Jan. 8 and ends on Saturday, Jan. 12.
Having won the Chili Bowl twice, Stewart holds the record of being one of five drivers to have won the event twice. Following his Chili Bowl victories in 2002 and 2007, Stewart has a pair of Golden Drillers in his collection.
Three times NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion while preparing for Chili Bowl lead all 40 laps of the POWRI Lucas Oil National Midget Series in DuQuoin. Stewart drove ‘Black in Black’, the machine he will be driving while competing in 4 day event. Stewart’s midget
car gets its name ‘Black in Black’ from its black colour and the carbon-fibre that was used in manufacturing the body of the machine.
“The excitement and atmosphere that is contained in the Expo Centre is really something you can’t explain and it was great to be part of it again in 2012 after 3 years. In the upcoming event, I’m really looking forward to taking another shot at winning the
Golden Driller for our partners, Chevrolet Performance and Curb Records, and I’d like nothing more than to win a third title for them and TSR,” Stewart said, commenting on how he felt about the overall atmosphere during the midget race.
Apart from Stewart, other drivers with NASCAR connections are Justin Allgaier, J.J. Yeley, Bobby East, Cole Whitt, Dakoda Armstrong, Tracy Hines, Billy Pauch, Kevin Swindell, Bryan Clauson, Tim McCreadie, Brad Sweet, A.J. Fike, Kyle Larson, Tyler Walker
and Brad Noffsinger.
