Former Spur’s midfielder Anderton sees Modric as ideal replacement for Scholes; Redknapp disagrees
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Darren Anderton, believes that the Croatian midfielder, Luka Modric, is the ideal man to replace the retiring Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes.
Scholes announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 and United are looking for the best candidate to replace the midfielder.
Modric has attracted interest from the Red Devils manager, Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson, and he might be tempted to move for him in the summer transfer window. The creative midfielder has been in superb form in the 2010/11 season and his tireless work rate and energetic runs have seen him compared to some of the top midfielders in the world.
Anderton, who himself was a midfielder for Spurs, sees Modric as an ideal replacement for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international but does not want to see the deal taking place.
Anderton said, "When you see that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 would be the perfect player to replace him," Anderton said. "Let's hope that for Tottenham's sake that isn't the case."
Meanwhile, Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp, has revealed that none of his star players will leave the White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window.
Modric yesterday revealed that he is not ruling out a summer move and would http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422, he has attracted interest from host of European clubs.
Redknapp has once again reiterated his stance that the former Dinamo Zagreb star is not for sale at any price.
Redknapp said: "All of our key players are under contract. The chairman and I have discussed this and we have no intention of selling any of them. They are at a top club and we are looking to improve the squad in the summer, not weaken it, in order to push for a Champions League place again next season."
Modric signed for Spurs in 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb and he has made 118 appearances for the lilywhites since then, scoring a modest 12 goals to go along with a bagful of assists.
