Former St. Louis Cardinals’ David Eckstein throws ceremonial pitch – MLB World Series Update
The former St. Louis Cardinals’ infielder David Eckstein on Thursday, October 27 threw the ceremonial pitch prior to the commencement of Game 6 of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.
It was David Eckstein who had brought glory to the St. Louis Cardinals exactly five years ago. At Busch Stadium, he was honoured with the Most Valued Player in the World Series along with a 2006 Chevy Corvette.
Describing the call by the St. Louis Cardinals to come and throw the ceremonial pitch, the former infielder called it an honour. Of all the great players that have won accolades for serving the Cardinals, Eckstein found it a humbling experience.
"It was definitely an honour when the Cardinals called," Eckstein said. "It's a humbling situation. They have had so many great players of the past, and for them to call me, I am thrilled.”
Eckstein had an impressive record of 8-for-22 in the 2006 World Series whereby he had a total of 4 RBIs and amassed three runs. The most fantastic performance was in Game 4 of the Series where he had 4-for-5, bringing victory for the St. Louis Cardinals.
David also referred to when he had overwhelming support from everyone around his father had been undergoing a kidney transplant. He thanked the Cardinals fans for extending selfless support to him.
"The fans here have treated us fantastic. Some people may not know -- in 2005, my dad was going through a kidney transplant, and the whole city backed us with saying prayers. It was an honor."
His being with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Eckstein, was a great experience.
As for his views on the two teams, he said both were evenly matched. When the infielder called it quits, he had a batting average of .280 with 1,414 hits to his credit, having had 392 RBIs with 35 home-runs.
As David Eckstein threw the ceremonial pitch to start off Game 6 of the World Series, the St. Louis Cardinals made a positive impression as they honoured one of their top former players.
