Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa will assist Detroit Tigers in Spring Training
Former St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa, who helped them win the 2011 Major League Baseball World Series Championship, is now planning to make another team invincible. Recently reports have come in the media that La Russa will assist the Detroit Tigers in Spring Training in a week’s time.
The Tigers, who lost to the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series last year despite their planned defensive strategy, now want the services of a manager who has three World Series Championship rings in his managerial career and is considered to be one of the very best managers in MLB.
Detroit's current manager Jim Leyland stated in the media and confirmed that La Russa is coming to assist the Tigers’ roster. He added, "Tony's going to be down for a couple weeks, He's going to work with Dave [Dombrowski] in the front office, and he's going over to Jupiter for a few days and then go out to Arizona for a few days. He will not be in uniform."
La Russa, who is already retired from the game, has recently mentioned in the media that he might manage another MLB team soon. Though these speculations are soaring but still he did not confirm any affiliation with any team.
On the other hand, he is coming in the Tigers’ Spring Training only for his long time friend, the Tigers' current manager Jim Leyland. He personally invited Russa to give some important tips to players and most importantly to young individuals who still need guidance from an experienced baseball administrator.
Russa’s success as a tough manager has been truly an inspiration to all MLB managers and especially for many professional baseball players in recent times. Experts believe that this is the only reason why the Tigers’ manager along with entire management wants his services in Spring Training to start a good beginning before the 2012 season.
The Tigers will be looking for some tips from La Russa during Spring Training to avoid the fall-out that they had in 2011. Last year’s defeat is still in their memory and the team want to erase that dark time with a positive approach to play like Champions and win the World Series this year.
