Former St. Louis Cardinals’ manager to host All-Star Game – MLB News
The former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals Tony La Russa will have another distinction this year as he will have managerial responsibility of the National League squad in the All-Star Game. Managing the 2012 All-Star squad will embellish an already illustrious
record of this exemplary manager.
Major League Baseball made this announcement on Tuesday, January 24. For many observers who are privy to the game, this decision was rather expected. The honour is annually bestowed upon the skipper of the pennant-winning team.
St. Louis Cardinals had qualified for the World Series and beat the Texas Rangers last season. It was under the auspices of Tony La Russa that the team outrivaled all, bringing in the glory the club has traditionally deserved.
This was something that the Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig also acknowledged while announcing the decision.
"Tony earned this opportunity with the remarkable run that the Cardinals completed last October, and I am delighted that he shared my enthusiasm about his staying in this role," Commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement issued by the League on Tuesday.
Shedding light on the stirring baseball event, the All-Star Game, Bud Selig stated that since the All-Star celebrated the best of the game, it was also necessary to see the top managers participating as well.
"The All-Star Game celebrates all the best of our game, and it is very appropriate that we will have the chance to celebrate one of the greatest managerial careers of all-time as a part of our festivities."
As much as the news was great for the former St. Louis Cardinals’ manager, he stated that he will have all the coaching staff of 2011 with him for the All-Star Game. It is said that Jose Oquendo, Mark McGwire, Derek Lilliquist and Mike Aldrete will become
part of his 2012 All-Star Game.
With the honour endowed upon an accomplished manager of his calibre, Major League Baseball has registered recognition of this former manager’s services for the game as a whole. The All-Star Game, thus, will offer another opportunity for the fans to behold
the tremendously talented La Russa.
