Former St. Pauli player Charles Takyi cleared to represent Ghana – Germany News
Having represented Germany at various youth levels, the former FC St. Pauli midfielder, Charles Takyi, has been cleared to represent Ghana at international level instead of Germany.
The player was allowed a nationality switch by the local court following an application from Ghana Football Association.
Takyi has spent most of his time in Germany, playing for the clubs like Schalke, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, prompting Ghanaian officials to apply for Charles’ nationality switch.
It was Geoff Thompson’s decision to allow the player to play for Ghana, causing delight amongst both the country’s officials and the player. While talking to reporters on his switch, the former Hamburg player enthused, "The request made by the Ghana Football Association and the player http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 Kwame Takyi for change of team association is accepted.”
He further added, "The player Charles Kwame Takyi is allowed to represent the national team of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 Football Association as from the notification of the present decision."
The Ghana-born player showed gratitude to the German court for deciding in his favour. He was confident of more opportunities at international level after being asked to wait longer in order to make an international appearance for German national side.
Takyi represented Germany at the U15, U16 and U17 level from 2000 to 2002. The player enjoyed two spells with FC St. Pauli from 2006 to 2008 and then from 2009 to 2011.
Currently, the midfielder is having an outstanding time in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, playing for Bury, where he has a remarkable 72 goals to his name until now from 46 league appearances.
The player, like many others before, got permission to play for Ghana after a change was brought in FIFA Statutes in 2005.
