Laudrup is looking to build his backroom staff before the new Premier League season kicks off, recently bringing in Kristian O’Leary to work with the youth and reserve side. This means Curtis has been given other responsibilities with the Swans.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 international will be giving up his role as the youth and reserve coach to work alongside Erik Larsen, Laudrup’s assistant, as the first team coach. The club chairman Huw Jenkins broke the news about the appointment of Curtis.
He said in a statement:
“Alan will work closely with Michael on all first-team matters. He will help provide the continuous link to what we have developed at this football club over the last few years.
Alan will help provide Michael with the knowledge of not only the existing squad and his experience of life in the Premier League, but how things have run at the club over the years. It will help make Michael's transition into our football club as efficient,
effective and comfortable as possible.”
According to Jenkins, Curtis would now be working closely with Laudrup; filling up the role that had been vacant at the club for a while. He said the appointment of Curtis would certainly help Laudrup adapt to his position at Swansea City as the new manager.
Jenkins hailed Alan Curtis’ contribution to the club over the years, with the 58-year-old having spent three spells with the Swans since he began his senior career.
He continued:
“Alan's reputation as a coach and a person is right up there with the best and we would be foolish not to utilise his talents. He has been a fantastic servant to this football club - and long may that continue.”
The Welshman began his career with Swansea City in 1972, remaining with the side until 1979 and going on to make 248 appearances in the League and scoring 72 goals. He has had spells with Leeds United, Southampton and Cardiff City in between before returning
to Swansea City in 1989 where he ended his career.
