Former Tennessee Titans’ head coach, Jeff Fisher finalises deal with St. Louis Rams–NFL News Update
Former Tennessee Titans’ head coach, Jeff Fisher, has finally decided to join St. Louis Rams as the franchise’s head coach,
NFL.com reported on Friday, January 13, 2012.
Fisher and the Rams later confirmed the news.
Jeff Fisher was one of the most favourable candidates to fill the head coaching vacancy of the Rams or Miami Dolphins.
He met with the officials of both the franchises and after a week filled with speculations, Fisher finally decided where he was bound to be going.
"The process has been lengthy, but for good reasons", Fisher told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
"I took a lot of time looking at and exploring in detail the non-economic issues of both clubs”.
The Rams only won two games in the National Football League (NFL) regular season and lost 14.
Following the failure, the management fired head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, and general manager, Billy Devaney, triggering a hunt for some new faces.
Fisher met Rams’ quarterback, Sam Bradford, when the former visited the Rams’ facility.
Bradford was the number one overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Fisher can lead the Rams to winning ways, if he works on the quarterback and tries to improve his performance.
Besides, the Rams have a number two overall pick in the upcoming draft and Fisher can have a candidate of his choice to strengthen the line-up.
There are several other factors that might have contributed in the decision making process.
The Rams at the moment do not have a general manager and the franchise’s officials have already announced that they would bring a relatively younger manager in the camp.
That would make Fisher’s work easier and provide him a strong command over the franchise’s affairs.
Another factor is the fact that Fisher’s agent, Marvin Demoff, is the father of Rams’ executive vice president of football operations and chief operating office, Kevin Demoff.
"I'm really excited that the Rams are the best fit for me, I hope I'm the best fit for the Rams, and am looking forward to finalising the (contract) details and coming to work", Fisher informed about his plans.
With a veteran like Fisher in the camp, St. Louis Rams are expected to accelerate in the next season. However, only time will tell if the team can live up to the expectations or not.
