Former Tottenham Hotspur defender wanted by AS Saint-Etienne – Ligue 1 news
According to reports in French media, Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne are keen on the services of former Tottenham Hotspur defender Pascal Chimbonda.
The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving newly-promoted English Premier League outfit Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314. Even by the end of this summer’s transfer window, Chimbonda was unable to find a club upon his return to France.
However, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, AS Saint-Etienne are keen on the services of the former Bastia defender. Following a serious injury to club captain Loic Perrin, Les Verts are looking to recruit a right-back and Pascal Chimbonda is one
of those players who has been identified as a possible cover for the injured Frenchman.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pascal-Chimbonda-c29196 is also open to a move to Stade Geoffroy-Guichard but AS Saint-Etienne management would like to see whether the player is in good physical condition or not before making an offer.
The 2010/2011 campaign was a difficult season for Chimbonda as he was restricted to just three league appearances in the championship. His last outing was back in April 2, 2011 against Scunthorpe and since then, the 32-year-old has not seen the field.
Enthusiastic about a chance of playing in France, Chimbonda is willing to undergo physical tests. Furthermore, following the sudden departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steed-Malbranque-c33957 whose contract was terminated by mutual consent due to personal reasons, Les Verts have room
for Chimbonda and won’t mind adding him to their payroll if the defender proves his fitness.
Pascal Chimbonda did receive an offer to play for West Ham United but chose not to join the London outfit. Furthermore, after playing in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
After impressing during his two-season stay at Bastia, Chimbonda was signed by Wigan Athletic. In his first and only season for the Latics, the Frenchman was in great form and his performances earned him a move to Tottenham in 2006.
However, since leaving Spurs in 2008 for Sunderland, Chimbonda has not been able to replicate the form that made him such an important part of the Wigan side and a move to a French club could improve things for the Guadeloupe-born Frenchman who has made
just one appearance for Les Bleus.
